NOTE: This tutorial may be out of date as it was created several years ago and I have not done much rendering with the latest versions of Maya..

This is a quick tutorial on how to achieve a basic studio lighting setup with Maya and Mental Ray using a single hdr image and final gather.

Hi thanks for wonderful tut. though the i didnt get the desired effect. The reflection wasn't clear and sharp and got blurred. Any idea what went wrong??

My first guess (without seeing it) would be that hdri texture is stretched on your sphere making it appear distorted in the reflection.

wow! i almost got the effect

thanks for the amazing tutorial.
However, there is a line coming exactly in the centre of the sphere which seems to be dividing in into two parts,can't figure out what went wrong

I'm sure i missed out on some point or did something unwanted. But, i'm very happy that i got the technique. Thanks again
